reports across Twitter have him deciding on three teams, Winnipeg, Montreal and the Sabres
god that must be (frank)ing depressing for him |

Gardiner is a great defensive liability. The Jets are better off playing their draft and develop players Niku, Poolman or Stanley. |

If you could pull off just playing him in the regular season and benching him in the playoffs, then I think he could actually be worth it. Wade Redden 2.0 |

If the Jets sign Gardiner it's not because they need him to be a stud, just a #2,3,4 for the duration of the contract. It looks like opportunity to 'buy low' on a good player with a little baggage.

Sounds like Chevy is taking a summer nap. Rather quiet of late. |

None of those players are better than Gardiner right now. Poolman and Stanley never will be. Niku...best case scenario becomes a Gardiner type player.
Now term and money...that's another issue. |

Poolman will surprise people if he stays healthy.
Don’t want Gardner. |

Comes with the turf of being the designated offensive driving D man. Gardiner has been good at it. Everyone remembers his -4 in game 6 in last years playoffs, but seem to quickly forget all the 30+ point seasons he had with a pretty weak squad through most of those seasons. He brings more to the table than he gives up, and if the Jets can snag him on a short term deal, do it. 2 years at 6.75M AAV would be great. But if he wants 6 years at 7+.....Nope |

This could be true! And cheap!
I feel the Aho and Meier contracts should resonate strongly with Connor and Laine. Aho smashed both those boys, with 83 points, and is certainly a better player than the jets rfa's. 8.45M seems like a good price Aho. Meier could not be a better comparison to Connor. Nearly identical stats, and playing with similar all-star supporting casts makes the 6M AAV a very strong comparison for what Connor should be paid. Laine is a real mystery. Worst player I have ever witnessed without the puck, but can notch 40+ goals a year. If they can't work out a long term deal under 7.5M AAV, then take it to arbitration to bridge to the next deal. |

Anyone concerned about Gardiner’s defence must take a moment to remember that we’ve have actually had Chairot, Morrow, Kulikov, Stuart, and Brain freakin’ Strait on our roster on purpose.
Gardiner might be as bad in his own end as all of them (he’s not), but he’s immediately chasing Buff for the “most dangerous with puck” label |

Gardiner can be quite a good addition if the coach protects him from situations where he's unlikely to do well.

Hope that whoever plays defence for the Jets doesn’t challenge Buff for the “least likely to get hit by the puck on his body” title. |

So looking at capfriendly today and the amount of cap space the Jets have and still need to add 8 players to the roster. Things are looking pretty dire to me - have no clue how chevy is going to fit all that he needs to do into what he has left to spend. We will of course here nothing out of the Jets (trades/signings etc.) until early September I'm sure though. |

What is the plan here?
Chariot and Tanev at those amounts have us out of the running??? Crazy
If I was another GM is would offer sheet the Fak out of the Jets. We look wounded and floundering .
I wonder if they’ll remember to charge more for parking , beer and food though lol |

Some people around here probably wouldn’t have given Tanev or Chiarot more than 1.5 each |

Agree, what is the plan?? It's starting to feel like there isn't one at all. After hearing Laine's agents comments this morning I wouldn't be surprised at all if he is a holdout this year. |

Without considering intangibles and player 'fit' in Winnipeg the only player loss that stings for on-ice talent is Trouba. Myers, Tanev, Chiarot played well in their roles but are replaceable at less dollars than they received as UFA's. Good for them, the Jets will recover.
Last year's group wasn't good enough, we can't spend more, something else had to change. For those looking for big moves to move forward, this is it - out with the steady vets and look for the upside in prospects. It's how draft and develop works. The younger players enter when the vets exit. |
